Remaining True to Traditional Animation Digitally
A member of SAG and AFTRA, Michael Roche has appeared on television and commercials, as well as numerous stage productions. Michael currently teaches grades 7 - 12 in Philadelphia, Pa. Classes including "Film and Stage Acting", "Writing for the Stage and Screen", "Public Speaking", "Narrative, Documentary and Animated Filmmaking" and "Racism, Sexism and Other Isms in Film". Michael currently uses Animation-ish and Toon Boom Studio in his various class projects as well as in his personal projects. While he applies traditional animation principles, he certainly appreciates the ability to work paperless. “The ability to reshape or resize and image, to change a background, or the color of the characters skin, clothes or other aspects without having to redraw the image is a huge time saver,” says Michael.

Learning Animation Principles Using Toon Boom Studio
Brandon Ray grew up drawing with Commander Mark on the PBS children’s drawing series, The Secret City. Somewhere along the way, he became interested in film and video, and got a degree in filmmaking from the University of Texas in Austin. While he was doing some editing and motion graphics for television and film, he ran across Toon Boom Studio, and it re-ignited his childhood passion for drawing and cartoons. Nowadays, Brandon is creating animation in his spare time, which eventually led him to actually meet and collaborate with his childhood mentor, “Commander” Mark Kistler! “So as my animations have progressed, my workflow has evolved to incorporate both my motion graphics experience and the ‘traditional’ animation techniques I’ve taught myself with the help of Toon Boom Studio” shared Brandon.

Toon Boom Animate Pro
Justin, Cartoonsmart.com, May 2009
"Okay now the REALLY cool part about Pro that I discovered today ( but I know there’s more to be found) was the Network and Module Library. Together these two new windows really make me feel like the software is living up to the name “Pro” First timers to the program might find the Network window a little crazy, but once you get used to it, it is very simple. Or let’s put it this way, if you have trouble connecting your DVD player to your TV, you might be confused by the Network. And that’s probably a good way of describing this window."

Register for Life
Emru Last year, Toon Boom Animation began a campaign to save Emru Townsend, the man behind the voice of the Toon Boom Animation tutorials. He was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia in December 2007, and in early 2008, he discovered he needed a bone marrow transplant. His only sibling was not a match, and he quickly learned about the unrelated registries of donors worldwide, and the lack of visibility of accurate information about registration as a donor and the donation process if someone proves to be a match.
