  Do I need a working internet connection for Comic Boom?

Yes! Comic Boom will not work unless you have a working internet connection to download, install and activate it. Once it is activated, the computer no longer needs to be connected to the internet.

  Can I buy Comic Boom with Toon Boom gift certificates?

Yes! You can purchase the software and give it as a present using the Toon Boom gift certificate option in our online store. Please note that the computer where the software will be installed MUST have Internet access.

  Can I buy Comic Boom on a CD?

No, you can only download Comic Boom.

  I am unhappy with Comic Boom and don’t want it anymore, can I get my money back?

No! We do not refund this product. Try using it again, you may be surprised just how easy you can make comic strips with it.

Installation Related

  Can I activate Comic Boom by email?

No! You can only activate Comic Boom if you have a working internet connection on the computer where you are going to download, install and activate it.

  Can I download Comic Boom on my friend’s computer, then install, and activate it on my home computer? My computer is not connected to the internet.

No! You must have an internet connection in order to activate the software on your computer. You can download it to one computer and then place it on another computer, which has an active internet connection, where you can install and activate it.

  Can I download Comic Boom from my work computer, then copy, install and activate it on my computer at home? My home computer is not connected to the internet.

No! The computer that you install and activate the software on must have a working internet connection.

  I don’t have the Internet on the computer where I want to install the software, what do I do?

You have to connect the computer to the Internet when doing the installation; there is no way of activating the software without it.

  Do I need the Internet connected after the installation to run the software?

After the software is installed AND ACTIVATED, the computer doesn’t need to stay connected to the Internet. So if your internet connection fails you can still use Comic Boom. You will need to be connected if you want to export your comic strip to YouTube or Facebook.

  Can I install the software on more than one computer?

Yes, as long as both have a working internet connection. However, you must deactivate Comic Boom on the first computer before you can install and reactivate it on the second computer.

  Can I download and activate Comic Boom on a computer with working internet connection and then transfer it to a computer that does not have working internet connection?

No! Comic Boom requires an internet connection to activate the software.

Using Comic Boom

  Is there an instruction manual?

Yes. There is an interactive user guide, access this through the Help menu (for Windows) or the Application menu (for Mac).

  Can I still use Comic Boom if my internet no longer works?

As long as Comic Boom was installed and activated on that computer you can use Comic Boom even if the connection to the internet is lost.

  I like Comic Boom a lot, can I make a copy to give to my friends?

No! It is not legal to make copies of Comic Boom to give to your friends. Show your friends the Comic Boom webpage and tell them they can buy a copy. Click on this link to go to the web page

  Can I create custom libraries?

Yes. You can create custom libraries and save your drawings for future use.

  Comic Boom keeps failing when trying to print, what do I do?

The software always prints the current page with the default printer. Check your printer default properties and see if something in these options could make the print fail.

  Can I import sound into Comic Boom?

No!

  Can I import images into Comic Boom?

No!

  I can’t understand how to use Comic Boom.

  How do I create a new comic strip project?

Create a new Comic Boom project by clicking on the New button. If you already have a project open and it is not saved, Comic Boom will ask you if you want to save that project before opening a new one.

  I want to work on one of my projects, where is it?

Click on the Open button to open a saved project. When you click on this, a window will appear so you can browse to the place where the project was saved.

  How do I change my language settings?

Comic Boom supports different languages.
You can change your language settings in the Comic Boom menu bar by doing the following:

    For Windows:
  1. Click on Edit > Language.
  2. Select the language of your choice.
  3. Close Comic Boom and restart it for the new language setting to take effect.
    For Mac:
  1. Go into System Preferences > International.
  2. Click on Language.
  3. Click on English or Francais in the list and drag it to the top of the list.
  4. Close System Preferences.
  5. Launch Comic Boom.

  How do I increase the size of the eraser so I can erase thicker lines more easily?

Select the Eraser tool and then use the Brush slider to alter the size of the eraser.

  How do I paint behind the character I am drawing?

Click on the Draw Behind icon, it looks like a piece of paper with a red circle on it with a colour stroke behind it. The icon changes colour when it is ready to use. You can now use the Brush tool to paint behind your character. Anything you draw now will appear behind your character.

  How do I draw with different colours than the swatches shown in the palette?

That is easy! Double-click on a colour or click on the Edit Colour button. A Colour wheel will appear. Click on any colour you want and then click on the OK button. The new colour will appear in the colour palette area.

  How do I know what all the buttons do in Comic Boom?

To know how each button works, press F1 in Comic Boom to open the User Guide.

Sharing Comic Boom comic strips

  Can I give my drawings to my friend? He has Comic Boom.

Yes! Your friend must have a registered copy of Comic Boom.
Save your project and then copy your project to a USB key or disk and give it to your friend. He can open the project in his copy of the software.

  I like Comic Boom a lot, can I make a copy to give to my friends?

No! It is not legal to make copies of Comic Boom to give to your friends. Show your friends the Comic Boom webpage and tell them they can buy a copy. Click on this link to go to the web page.

  What format can I show my Comic Boom comic strip in?

You can publish a video file of your comic strip in iTunes, QuickTime, YouTube and Facebook formats. You can also use 3 different layouts to print your comic strips (Vertical, Horizontal and Individual panels).

  Do I need an Internet connection to export to YouTube or Facebook?

Yes. An Internet connection is required when exporting to YouTube and Facebook.

  Do I need a Facebook account to export to Facebook?

Yes. You need to log into your Facebook account during the export process. You will also be asked to allow Toon Boom Animation as a Facebook application and to allow video uploads on your account. Any negative answers will result in a failure to upload the video to your account.

  Do I need a YouTube account to export to YouTube?

Yes. You need to provide your YouTube account username and password in the software to upload a video.

  I provided my YouTube account and want the computer to remember it, is my password stored securely on the computer?

Yes. Your password is stored using 128-bit encryption.

  I have a YouTube account but I can’t export the video, what do I do?

Make sure that your Internet connection is working and that you have entered the correct user name and password.

  I have a Facebook account but I can’t export the video, what do I do?

Make sure that your Internet connection is working and that you have entered the correct login information.

Other Toon Boom Products

  I have projects from older versions of Comic Boom, will I still be able to open them?

Yes. Comic Boom 2.0 can open projects from Comic Boom 1.0. Go to File> Open to open a file that was created in Comic Boom 1.0.

  I have projects from Animation-Ish, can I open them in Comic Boom?

Yes! Comic Boom 2.0 can open projects from Animation-ish levels 1 and 2 (not 3). You can then edit and save them in the current project format. Once saved, you won’t be able to open them back up in Animation-ish.
