Do I need a working internet connection for Flip Boom Cartoon?
Flip Boom Cartoon will not work unless you have a working Internet connection to download, install and activate it.
Once it is activated, the computer no longer needs to be connected to the Internet. However, if you want to share your work on YouTube or Facebook you will need a working Internet connection.
I missed the promotion that gave you 2 free template libraries, can I buy them separately?
Yes. The templates are available as a separate bundle in the how to section
Can I buy Flip Boom Cartoon with Toon Boom gift certificates?

Can I buy Flip Boom Cartoon on a CD?
No, you can only download Flip Boom Cartoon.

Can I activate Flip Boom Cartoon by email?
No. You can only activate Flip Boom Cartoon if you have a working internet connection on the computer where you are going to download, install and activate it.
I don't have the Internet on the computer where I want to install the software, what do I do?
You have to connect the computer to the Internet when doing the installation; there is no way of activating the software without it.
Do I need the Internet connected after the installation to run the software?
No. After the software is installed AND ACTIVATED the computer doesn't need to stay connected to the Internet. This means that if your Internet connection fails you can still use Flip Boom Cartoon.
NOTE: If you want to export your animation to YouTube, Facebook or iTunes, you will need a working internet connection.
Can I install the software on more than one computer?
Yes, as long as both have a working Internet connection.

I can't hear my recorded sound when I play it back. What do I do?

Can I record sound to go along with my animation?
Yes, you can speak or sing into the computer's microphone. It is easy to record sounds and match them to your animation.
You can find out how to use this feature in Flip Boom Cartoon by clicking on Help > Flip Boom Cartoon Help and then clicking on the Record Sound button in the interface that appears.
Can I use the Tips and Tricks guides from earlier versions of Flip Boom?
Yes, you can use these although some of the icons may have changed. It is important to note that most of the tips and tricks sample projects have been updated to version 5, and will no longer work with previous versions.
Can I still use Flip Boom Cartoon if my internet no longer works?
As long as Flip Boom Cartoon was installed and activated on that computer you can use Flip Boom Cartoon even if the connection to the Internet is lost.
But remember, if you want to export your completed animation to Facebook or Youtube you will need an active Internet connection.
Can I make a copy of Flip Boom Cartoon to give to my friends?
No. It is not legal to make copies of Flip Boom Cartoon to give to anyone.

Can I create custom libraries?
Yes. You can create custom libraries and save your drawings for future use. You cannot, however, create custom sound libraries.
What are the actual numbers that the speed slider uses to control the animation frame rate?
The speed indicators shown on the speed slider represent the following frame rates in fps:
Flip Boom Cartoon keeps failing when trying to print, what do I do?
When you print a page in Flip Boom Cartoon, it always prints the current page that you have selected.
Can I import sound into Flip Boom Cartoon?
No, but make sure to take a look at all of the sounds that are now included in the new Sound Library.
You can also record sound directly over your animation by using the built-in Sound Record Feature.
It is easy to record sounds and match them to your animation.
You can find out how to use this feature in Flip Boom Cartoon by clicking on Help > Flip Boom Cartoon Help and then clicking on the Record Sound button in the interface that appears.
How do I access the sound library, as well as all the new sounds?
Click on the music note button in the bottom left of the Flip Boom Cartoon window, this takes you to the Sound Library. This is where you can sort through the different sound catalogs to add to your project.
Can I listen to a sound before I add it to my project?
Yes. When you are in the Sound Library, click on the sound that you want to hear, then click on the small play button at the bottom to listen to it.
I added a sound to my project, but I can't find it?
When you use the library arrow to add a sound to your project, the sound is added either at the beginning of your project, or directly after the last one. Try scrolling nearer to the end of your project.
Why are some of my project's sound clips coloured red?
When one sound is overlapped by another, the clip will have a red border around it, and will show a jagged line where the two sounds meet.
My sound doesn't finish playing when I preview my movie. What's wrong?
If your sound clip goes past your pages, you'll have to add more pages in order to hear the whole sound. Sound that goes past your pages will not play in your movie.
Can I import images into Flip Boom Cartoon?
No.

How do I create a new animation?
Create a new Flip Boom Cartoon project by clicking on the New button. If you already have a project open and it is not saved, Flip Boom Cartoon will ask you if you want to save that project before opening a new one.
I want to work on one of my projects, where is it?
Click on the Open button to open a saved project. When you click on this, a window will appear so you can browse to the place where the project was saved.
Can I change the software skin colour of Flip Boom Cartoon?
How do I change my language settings?
Flip Boom Cartoon supports French and English languages.
To change the language of Flip Boom Cartoon, do the following in the Flip Boom Cartoon menu bar:

How do I increase the size of the eraser so I can erase thicker lines more easily?
Select the eraser tool and then use the Brush slider to alter the size of the eraser.
How do I find the templates, I can only see drawing tools?
At the bottom of the drawing tools area, you will see a round picture of some books, this picture is called an icon. Click on this icon and the library and templates will appear. The icon will change to show a drawing tools icon. To go back to the drawing tools, click on the drawing tools icon.
How do I draw behind the character I am drawing?
Select the character and then click on the Draw Behind icon, it looks like a tree with a colour stroke behind it. The icon changes colour when it is ready to use. You can now use the brush tool to draw behind your character.
How do I see the page before the one that I am working on?
Click on the icon with the two people on it, this is the Show/Hide Previous/Next Pages tool.
When you do this you will be able to see the page right before and the page right after the one you are working on.
This is useful when you are trying to match your current drawing to the rest of the animation and make the cartoon more fluid.
How do I draw with different colours than the swatches shown in the palette?

Can I give my drawings to my friend who has Flip Boom Cartoon?
Yes. Your friend must have the same version of Flip Boom Cartoon as you do AND it must be a registered copy.
Save your project and then copy your project to a USB key or disk and give it to your friend and then he can open the project in his copy of Flip Boom Cartoon.
What format can I show my Flip Boom Cartoon animation in?
YouTube, Facebook, iTunes, SWF and MOV file format.
Do I need an Internet connection to export to YouTube or Facebook?
Yes. An Internet connection is required when exporting to YouTube and Facebook.
Do I need a Facebook account to export to Facebook?
Yes. You need to log into your Facebook account during the export process. You will also be asked to allow Toon Boom Animation as a Facebook application and to allow video uploads on your account.
Any negative answers will result in a failure to upload the video to your account.
Do I need a YouTube account to export to YouTube?
Yes. You need to provide your YouTube account username and password in the software to upload a video.
I provided my YouTube account and want the computer to remember it, is my password stored securely on the computer?
Yes. Your password is stored using 128-bit encryption.
I have a YouTube account but I can't export the video, what do I do?
Make sure that:

I have projects from older versions of Flip Boom Cartoon, will I still be able to open them?
Flip Boom Cartoon 5.0 can open projects made with these earlier versions:
To edit and save the projects you will have to convert them to the current project format.
NOTE: Once saved, you won't be able to open up the project in earlier versions of Flip Boom Cartoon and Flip Boom.
I have projects from Comic Boom, can I open them in Flip Boom Cartoon?Yes. Flip Boom Cartoon can open projects from Comic Boom. You can then edit and save them in the current project format. Once saved, you won't be able to open them back up in Comic Boom.
I have projects from Animation-ish, can I open them in Flip Boom Cartoon?
Yes! Flip Boom Cartoon can open projects from Animation-ish levels 1 and 2 (not 3). You can then edit and save them in the current project format. Once saved, you won't be able to open them back up in Animation-ish.
I have Flip Boom Battat and have some templates that I bought; can I use these in Flip Boom Cartoon?
Yes. Once installed with Flip Boom Battat, the purchased templates can be copied into your Flip Boom Cartoon 5.0 directory.
