DP0012: How can I blend the colors?

Glossary
Line art & Color art: Toon Boom Digital Pro is divided into two layers of the drawing mode, the line art and the color art. You can draw and paint either in one layer, however, there are some benefits having a drawing lines in the line art and the painted in the color art. For example when you have a line texture, you will see the transparent area in the line and it will not be merged properly if you paint it in the line art.

Now if you paint it in the color art, you will have a nice paint to be done since the strokes in the color art are merged under the middle of the line in the line art. And so does the colored zone.

Create Color art from Line art: This option is used to create a stroke in the color art from the lines of the line art. In order to do that, first select the lines with the select tool and then choose Create Color art from Line art option from Drawing menu> Drawing>Convert. Also you can use the toolbar Icon after select the lines with select tool. Use flatten option before converting it. Also you can use the Auto Create color art from brush option to create stokes in the color art while drawing a line in the line art.

Color-override: This effect module does many things such as change the color values in the drawings during the compositing process, using the color values from a specific color palette in the palette list., establish the priority of override palettes in the palette list and also isolate certain areas of drawing by selecting certain colors.

Now, in order to blend two or more colors, you need to use the color-override and blur to blur the area.

Step 1, Draw a character and create a stroke in the color art either using Auto Create color art from brush or Create Color art from Line art option.

Step 2. Paint it in the Color art.

Step 3. Now the red circles are the area that will be blended. So separate the line art and the color art using the line art and the color art module to separate the line from the color since only selected colored area will be blended. Note that any effects will be shown in the render view correctly. Please use often to check the result on each step.

Step 4. Now remove both line art and the color art from the composite and add a color override in the middle. In color-override option, select the right palette and choose only two colors.

Step 5. Add a blur to blur them.

Step 6. Now, since you do not want to blur the outside of the line, using a cutter with inverted option by using a color–override drawing as a matte, cut the outside of the blurred area.

Step 7. Now add the line art and also the color art so that the line art goes front and the color art that are not blended (nose) shows.

Step 8. Now if you see the ear, there are unwanted areas that are blurred. There are two ways of optimize this.
-Using a different color ID by painting it: Copy and paste color as a new color to create another color pot that contains same RGB value while having a different Color ID. Then in the color art, divide the area where you do not want to blur. Then paint with newly created color.  With this method, you can only blur selected area.

-Using a mask: Create a mask where you want to blur only. Then using another cutter to show only masked area.

And here is the final result
