Eligibility criteria

Is your institution eligible for the program?

Want to Become a Centre of Excellence? These are the criteria your school must meet to become eligible to Toon Boom COE Program.

Offer a specific multi-year degree or diploma in animation, storyboarding or a related field such as video game development.

Be using recent versions of Harmony Advanced or Harmony Premium and Storyboard Pro in their curriculum during their application and renewal, and be in good financial standing with Toon Boom.

Schools must purchase a minimum of 50 academic licenses of a combination of Harmony and Storyboard Pro as well as ensure annual Gold Support is maintained.

Courses offered in animation and storyboarding must incorporate Toon Boom software and these courses should be available continuously throughout each the academic year.

The school is required to purchase annual training for its instructor(s). This training must be pertinent to their discipline(s) to keep their knowledge level current (excludes the free COE workshops included in the COE benefits).

School to complete a COE application form with the following documents; Curricula (course grid), Toon Boom training proof of purchase or training certificates, school program description, school logo and student work (videos, reel etc.) created with our software.

School to incorporate the Toon Boom COE logo and link to toonbooom.com on the school website.

Student to professional offer

This offer is available to new COE grads and offers -50% off commercial pricing for 1st year after graduation; purchase applicable on annual desktop subscriptions only, applicable products: Storyboard Pro and Harmony (limited to one license of each). NOTE: Proof of graduation required.

The Creative Media Institute at New Mexico State University offers the Bachelor of Creative Media, available in either Digital Film Making or Animation and Visual Effects. The curriculum focuses on the art, craft, and business of storytelling. Students choose an area of emphasis, but they study all aspects of digital filmmaking and digital arts, whether they are aspiring writers, animators, directors, editors, or cinematographers. Theory and practice are integrated at every step as students manipulate text, sound, and images using industry-standard technology. CMI houses a state-of-the-art digital projection screening room, post-production lab, animation lab, and production space.

Vermont State University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation & Illustration provides motivated, talented visual artists the training in drawing and visual storytelling to develop a unique “visual voice” that prepares them for a myriad of careers in the animation and illustrator field, including picture book illustration, storyboarding, animation (2D and 3D), editorial illustration, character design, visual game design, rigging, 3D modeling, and illustrating graphic novels. Through hands-on coursework that demands original thought, and use of industry standard software, the program stimulates critical thinking and instills a passion for visual storytelling in animation and illustration.  Students in the Animation & Illustration program come away with a strong, diverse portfolio of relevant workplace experience. During junior and senior years of study, students participate in Animation Illustration Workshop, a series of practicum-based courses in which they provide animation and illustration services for local and regional businesses and develop personal projects. Classroom work is oriented towards authentic application; solutions designed to go into the real world and serve true purpose.
