Algonquin offers more than 100 full-time programs, including certificates, diplomas, graduate programs and bachelor degrees in applied studies. Their degree programs provide the best of both worlds, combining the practical application of college education with the theoretical and critical foundations of university learning. Algonquin students benefit from a low student-to-teacher ratio and small class sizes. Their wireless campus and eLearning options maximize the use of technology as part of both the curriculum and the learning process.
Algonquin offers a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma program that provides students with training in traditional, and 2D digital animation techniques. Following a common first year of study, which includes animation, life drawing and design courses students have the option of focusing on either traditional or digital animation disciplines with an emphasis on creating performance-based character animation.
Graduates gain the knowledge, skills and techniques required to work effectively as animators using a variety of tools within a professional animation studio. Tools of choice related to 2D animation include Toon Boom Pencil Check Pro, Storyboard Pro and Harmony.
Neil Hunter, Coordinator, Professor of Animation, talks about the School of Media and Design's philosophy, the integration of the Toon Boom technology in the classroom, their relationship with the industry, their outreach programs as well as their first-class facilities.
