Rusty Mills - Animator 1963-2012

Montreal, Canada - December 10, 2012

The animation world lost an accomplished and brilliant animator this weekend, Rusty Mills passed away at age 49. An Emmy award winner, Rusty worked in the industry as a director, storyboard artist and animator.
After attending CalArts, Rusty trained with Eric Larson at Disney. This led to animating on projects such as An American Tail and Sport Goofy: Soccermania. He spent several years animating at Filmation Studios before landing at Warner Bros. He’s best remembered for his directing and producing roles at Warner Bros. where he worked on Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain for which he won five Emmy’s and a Peabody.

His knowledge in digital production is used on various productions. Rusty also found time to produce and animate various independent projects and taught digital storyboarding classes at Studio Arts in Glendale.

Among his many TV credits are Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain, Tiny Toon Adventures, Garfield’s Thanksgiving, Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, The Replacements, Pink Panther & Pals and last year’s A Very Pink Christmas TV movie.

Rusty is survived by his wife, Andrea and son Evan. The family has set up a cancer fund at this location

A long time friend of Toon Boom Animation, he will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this time.
