Toon Boom China connects local studios and students to global solutions

Toon Boom’s expansion continues with advanced animation technologies, tools and training

Award-winning animation software leader Toon Boom Animation has launched Toon Boom China, opening three offices in Beijing, Shenzhen and Suzhou to service the country and support the development of its rapidly growing animation industry (projected to be worth over $54 billion by 2025) by helping meet the burgeoning demand for trained talent and high-quality original content. The outposts will provide local technical expertise and support, training and access to a tailored selection of Toon Boom product and solutions portfolio including, but not limited to, Storyboard Pro and Harmony (voted Animag’s Best Animation Tool 2018), both of which can be purchased in Chinese Yuan (RMB). As both a content creator and consumer, China is a rising star in Asia’s US$52 billion animation market and Toon Boom’s thought leadership and international connections will bridge local artists with producers across the continent and ultimately the world.

“Over the last decade, the Chinese animation industry has evolved from emerging to exploding; Toon Boom China allows us to deliver our industry-standard software, expertise and training at the local level,” says Francois Lalonde, Co-President of Toon Boom Animation. “A rising generation of Chinese youth are demanding original animation and our digital solutions have the creative flexibility and production efficiency to express both traditional techniques and storytelling, while respecting financial and time budgets.”

In the coming months, Toon Boom China will support local creators through a website and social media adapted for the market, and payment processing through WeChat and Alipay in addition to:

  • Education and training

  • Free online training

  • Product campaigns and more

Chinese studios also already using Toon Boom’s global-standard digital solutions Storyboard Pro and Harmony include Feitong and Shanghai Animation Film Studio, with many others in the pipeline.

“Having collaborated with Toon Boom on the China Tales Incubator, I have seen firsthand the potential impact its digital solutions can have on local productions,” says Sean Chu, senior advisor at Toon Boom China. “Chinese content production is growing at an exponential rate and Toon Boom animation software will help local artists create efficiently, beautifully and at an international quality.”

Toon Boom China’s hubs in Beijing and Shenzhen will enable Chinese creators across the country to meet the demand for original content, service work and trained talent by helping to develop a self-sustaining Chinese animation ecosystem — partnering with local studios, schools and professional animators to supply and support their production needs with its tools, training and technical expertise. As the industry standard, developing skills in Toon Boom’s digital storyboarding and animation software will also open artists up to opportunities within China and around the world.
